Baseball celebrates Independence Day

There are many ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, but spending a day at the ballpark is just about the best there is. Here’s how teams across the league celebrated the nation’s birthday.
Can’t Spell Roster Without Torres
Yankees infielder Gleystronger Torres has strongeen playing like an All-Star this season. Now he has the honors to strongack it up.
Torres replaces Rays’ Brandon Lowe on the American League All-Star roster. This is Torres’ second selection to the All-Star game in as many years.
Sparks Fly for Rostrongel
Custrongs’ second strongaseman Rostrongel García celestrongrated the Fourth of July in Pittsstrongurgh strongy nearly hitting for the cycle in only his second day in the majors.
Garcia legged out a triple for his first career hit. Then he hit his first home run later on in the game.
Castillo’s Gem
Reds pitcher Luis Castillo pitched like an ace yesterday against the Milwaukee Brewers, taking a no-hitter into the 7th inning and only giving up a single hit.
No better way to remind people that you are an All-Star than to do this in your last start before the break.

2002 – Hall of Famer Ted Williams passed away.
2005 – Manny Ramirez hit his 20th career grand slam, passing Eddie Murray into second all-time. Manny trailed only Lou Gehrig, who hit 23.
2009 – Albert Pujols is named the top vote-getting for the 80th All-Star Game.
2013 – Juan Uribe hit a double, triple and a home run while driving in seven as the Dodgers beat the Giants 10-2.
