El Bullpen: A Mets disaster, deadline dealing and Abreu makes history

Reyes Pitching In

José Reyes made history this week, allowing two home runs while pitching in the biggest blow-out loss in Mets history and then hitting two the next day. While on the mound, Reyes unfortunately plunked Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman with a…. fastball? Zimmerman’s reaction: priceless.

The dubious achievements were honored with a new TOPPSNOW card on Thursday.

Deadline Day

Even future Hall of Famers can get traded, as we outlined earlier this week. On Tuesday there were some surprising trades, including Wilson Ramos being dealt to the Phillies.

When second baseman Brian Dozier arrived in Los Angeles, at least one of his new teammates was in awe.

Not everything was fun and games in LA, however. One of the Dodgers’ other acquisitions, Manny Machado, took some heat for his new haircut.

Strong like Abreu

José Abreu became the first Cuban-born player voted the American League starter at first base in the All-Star Game last month. He’s been quietly putting up terrific numbers all season on Chicago’s south side, and made White Sox history this week.

Dominican Brotherhood

It was an honor for La Vida Baseball to play a small part in Pedro Martínez welcoming Vladimir Guerrero to the Hall of Fame fraternity.
