History for Pujols, citizen Puig, Mexican music in Williamsport

Machine-made history

Albert Pujols is now the all-time leader in hits from a player born outside the United States. With his 3,167th hit he passed Adrián Beltré.

Citizen Puig

Yasiel Puig shared his new U.S. citizenship on Wednesday.

Making music

He’ll represent Mexico in the Little League World Series but his musical talents are impossible to ignore.

Impressive company

What Gary Sánchez and Gleyber Torres have done against Baltimore this year is truly historic. Whenever your name is on a list with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig it’s pretty impressive.

101 for X

Xander Bogaerts hit home runs number 100 and 101 on Wednesday.

The Punisher keeps hitting

Cincinnati has a new hero. Aristides Aquino keeps hitting home runs at a record pace.

Fan Post of the Day

Time for some instruction and practice as these kids work to get better.

Pro Post of the Day

It appears Gleyber Torres loves someone more than Orioles pitchers.

OTD

2018 – After leading off the previous three games with a home run, Ronald Acuña Jr. is rudely greeted with a fastball to the head from Miami’s José Ureña. Acuña had homered in five consecutive games entering the game. Ureña was later suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount.

2012 – “King Félix” Hernández threw the first perfect game in Seattle Mariners history. Hernández struck out 12 and threw 113 pitches in a 1-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. It was the third no-hitter – and the second perfect game – thrown in Safeco Field and record third perfect game overall in MLB during the 2012 season.

2010 – Albert Pujols became the first player to hit 30 homers in his first 10 seasons with a 1st-inning shot off Ryan Dempster of the Cubs.

2005 – In only his second major league start Félix Hernández, 19 and not yet known as “King Félix,” became the first teenager to strike out at least 10 batters since Doc Gooden accomplished the feat with the Mets in May of 1984. Hernández struck out 11 Kansas City Royals.

1998 – Both teams showed up with brothers in their lineup. Vladimir Guerrero and Wilton Guerrero each hit a home run for Montreal while Bret and Aaron Boone suited up for the Reds (Bret also hit a home run). The Reds beat the Expos 6-4.

Happy birthday!
