The baseball world was saddened to learn of the passing of umpire Eric Cooper over the weekend. Cooper was behind the plate for Mark Buehrle’s perfect game and no-hitter for the White Sox. Former Sox manager Ozzie Guillén shared his condolences.

2003 – The Yankees won Game 3 of the World Series 6-1 behind a Bernie Williams home run. New York took a 2-1 lead over the Marlins in the Series.
2001 – Bernie Williams hit a game-tying home run in the 8th inning and Alfonso Soriano hit a game-winning two-run homer in the 9th to give the Yankees a 3-1 win over the Mariners in the American League Championship Series. Mariano Rivera got the win in relief.
1973 – Bert Campaneris and Reggie Jackson hit two-run home runs in the 3rd inning to lead the Oakland Athletics past the New York Mets, 5-2, in Game 7 of the World Series, giving Oakland their second straight World Championship.
