Roberto Clemente Award Nominees Announced

On Tuesday morning Major League Baseball announced the nominees from all 30 teams for the 2018 Roberto Clemente Award.
Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo won the 2017 Roberto Clemente Award.
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is the only player nominated this year from Puerto Rico. White Sox first baseman José Abreu is the only Cuban-born player nominated. Venezuela is represented twice, by Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco and Miami’s Martín Prado. Seattle’ Nelson Cruz is the only Dominican-born player on the list.

The winner of the 2018 Roberto Clemente Award will be announced during the 2018 World Series. Fans can participate in the selection of the league-wide winner by casting a vote at mlb.com/clemente21.
Wednesday, September 5th marks the 17th annual Roberto Clemente Day. Clubs playing at home on Wednesday will recognize their nominees as part of their Roberto Clemente Day ceremonies. Clubs that are on the road will honor their nominees during a future home game.
Roberto Clemente Day was established by MLB to honor Clemente’s legacy and to officially acknowledge local club nominees of the Roberto Clemente Award. MLB has commemorated Roberto Clemente Day in early September since 2002.
